2007 SCOR Executive Committee Meeting
26-28 August 2007
Bergen, Norway

Meals

Eating out is relatively expensive in Norway.  Our Norwegian hosts have arranged with the hotel to subsidize our room costs and provide most meals as part of the room cost.  Thus, breakfasts, lunches, and breaks will be provided on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday as part of the SCOR meeting.  Dinner will be provided by our hosts on Sunday night.  Dinners on Monday and Tuesday will be on your own.  A Bergen restaurant guide can be accessed here.

Our local hosts wrote:

"There are many good restaurants in the neighbourhood surrounding the bay. You will find different varieties and can check their posted menus during a short stroll. The hard part is to find anything cheap. Chinese food and pizza is relatively inexpensive. I can recommend Peppes Pizza near the other end of the Bryggen complex relative to the hotel. Also, there are more Chinese restaurants (and other restaurants) in the city centre than those listed in the guide. Enquire in the hotel for directions and recommendations. A Mongolian Barbecue near "the other" SAS Hotel (Norge) does not have the most cozy or interesting interior but serves good and reasonable food in a quiet environment suitable for conversation. Bryggeloftet right at Bryggen is one traditional Bergen restaurant which is not excessively expensive. Wesselstuen at the far end of Torgallmenningen is a very relaxed traditional Bergen restaurant, perhaps with some German-style influence. Straightforward food and service, not cheap given the lack of sophistication, but much visited by people from the university and the nearby theatre."
