The first exploratory workshop was held at the University of Rhode Island on 27-29 October 2010.
An IQOE Open Science Meeting was held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France on 30 August-1 September 2011.
IQOE co-sponsored (with the International Whaling Commission, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the U.S. Office of Naval Research Global, The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research, and the Netherlands Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment) a workshop on Predicting Sound Fields, held on 15-16 April 2014 in Leiden, Netherlands. Status: The IQOE Science Plan has been reviewed and approved by the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) and the Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans (POGO), and is available here.
Funding has been obtained to begin initial implementation activities. An IQOE Science Committee has been formed and met for the second time in London, UK on 27-28 January 2017.
SCOR and POGO staff members will assist project scientists with implementation.
Next Steps: Additional funding is being sought, including for an international project office.
